Tooth Extractions

Caring and compassionate care

Sometimes as an adult, you need to have a tooth pulled. While your teeth are meant to last a lifetime, there are reasons for having a tooth removed. The most common reasons include:

An overly crowded mouth.

When a patient needs to undergo orthodontic treatment to improve the health of their smile, additional room is occasionally needed to allow space for teeth to readjust their position.

Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth often need removing. Either the mouth doesn’t have enough room to accommodate the emergence of new molars or the teeth fail to erupt through the gum line. When teeth become compacted under the gum line, they cause swelling and discomfort that can only be alleviated by their removal.

Infection

If a tooth becomes badly infected by dental decay and disease, it may not be possible to save the tooth. To prevent the spread of infection, removal may be the only option.

If you need to have a tooth removed, our team at Mosley Dental will provide the caring and compassionate care you deserve. We will take every step to help minimize any discomfort, and our doctors will provide you with tooth replacement options that will restore your smile to health.

Dr. Mosley may determine with you that one of your teeth needs to be extracted, which can occur for a variety of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), in preparation for orthodontic treatment, or have broken and cannot be repaired. A tooth may also be severely decayed or have advanced periodontal disease.

The removal of a single tooth can lead to problems involving your other teeth shifting, your ability to chew, and problems with your jaw joint. To avoid these complications, Dr. Mosley will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as replacement of the extracted tooth.
